Filipino omelet food”Tortang Talong”
( egggplant omelette )

I am learning English from a Filipino teacher.
The teacher introduced me to Filipino omelet dishes.
This is Tortang Talong.

Tortang means omelette and talong means eggplant.

Introducing my own version of the Filipino dish, Tortang Talong.

Ingredients(for 2 people)

two- long eggplants

half-Onion

one- medium-sized tomato

two- eggs

one can-tuna flakes

Salt and pepper

Salad oil

preparation

  1. Remove the calyx of the long eggplant. Grill in the oven until the inside is soft (about 50 minutes)
  2. Chop the onions and tomatoes to about 5 mm.

How to make

1,When the eggplant is cooked, peel it while it is hot. When the skin is peeled off, crush it with a fork to flatten it.

2,Put the cooking oil in a frying pan and fry the onions over medium heat. When the onions are tender, add tomatoes and tuna. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Set aside(for later).

3, Beat the eggs. Dip the eggplant until it is fully covered with the beaten eggs.

Put the salad oil in the frying pan and fry the eggplant on both sides. Repeat this about 3 times.

4, Place the other ingredients on the eggplant. Pour the egg mixture, flip it on the other side once it is cooked.

5,Serve.

Eggplant has a lot of water and the taste is light, so I added ketchup to finish it.

I added tuna this time, but it seems that there are various arrangements such as a plain type with only eggs and eggplant, add oil sardine and a voluminous type with minced meat.

I definitely want to try the authentic Tortang Talong.

There is another thing that I would like to eat with Philippine egg dishes.

It’s a “balut”.

A boiled egg made by heating a duck egg just before hatching.

It can be eaten at food stalls and popular set meal shops.

It is often eaten in the Philippines and Vietnam as a good food for nutrition and vigor.

Balut is a bizarre food in Japan.

However, eating raw eggs over rice is one of the incredible foods for foreigners.

I imagine the taste of the balut.

It tastes like a Japanese Oyakodon(chicken and egg bowl) where you can enjoy eggs and meat at the same time.

It is very interesting for me to know and eat the food from different countries.

Cooking connects the world!!

Take a big bite and crack a wide smile!

See you in the kitchen!

Thank you for reading.
